Taking Risks: Spring 2019 Jewelry Trends
If you were lucky enough to attend any of the spring and summer 2019 runway shows in New York, London, Paris, or Milan, you would have noticed an overall theme: exciting, risk-taking jewelry, as opposed to the more delicate “everyday” look that’s been in vogue for so long. Think necks cascading with pearls and chains, quirky charm bracelets and thick hoop earrings.
For those not in attendance, here’s a rundown of what was seen on the runways, and this spring’s jewelry trends, courtesy of whowhatwear.com and marieclair.com.
Chains of all shapes and sizes are popping up everywhere from the runway to the new-arrival sections of fine jewelry designers all over the world. Our personal favorite iteration of the trend is thicker chain-link chokers.
Go retro with bold gold pieces. Gold chains and links are back with a nod to the 1980s for a retro statement. “Oversized links in necklaces and bracelets are the perfect statement accessories to complete an outfit,” says Shannon Schafer, senior fashion director for Nordstroms.
Get creative with colored shells. “We love puka shells and are seeing the trend continue this year,” says Caroline Maguire, fashion director of shopbop.com. She advises to look to colored shells as a way to update your look, layered with various lengths and bold colors. Tortoise is also a huge trend. “We’re seeing lots of colored tortoise especially in oversized geometric shaped earrings and necklaces,” she adds.
Hoop dreams. Hoops are one jewelry trend that will never go out of style, according to whowhatwear.com. But every season, they see a few tweaks that make the circular earring style even more relevant than before. This season, the timeless style is taking on bolder and bulkier shapes, the website states.
Lucky charms. The nostalgic jewelry trend you loved as a child is officially back, and designers are jumping on the bandwagon faster than you can say Juicy Couture. This trend in particular, is one you can make your own, as the options of charms are endless.
Mismatched earrings not a mistake. Also seen on the runaways for spring: mismatched earrings. “It’s not necessarily new news, but it feels more modern than wearing two giant matching earrings. It’s got more of an edge, plus they were all over the spring 2019 runways, still,” says Lisa Aiken, women’s fashion director of Moda Operandi.
A reason for resin. Resin is a huge trend for 2019 and really makes a statement in bold, saturated colors, according to April Koza, vice president of FWRD. “So chic and makes any outfit instantly look easy to pull together,” Koza says.
